since I VERY rarely go out to the movies (being an old fashioned home-body) but did "Hurt Locker" deserve the Best Picture Oscar?
I think Avatar could have won more Oscars had it NOT made so much money. I know that is contrarian thinking but the academy voters may have felt a bit of envy over the extraordinary box office success and voted out of spite.
Should Avatar have gotten best picture, best director? _________________ "Next time I tell you someone from Texas should not be president of the United States, please pay attention.”---Molly Ivins |

I haven't seen either. I saw Precious and that was a damn good movie. Blind Side and It's Complicated were good too. I don't know how to quantify how one movie is better than another, though. People are obsessed with competition in the USA and that's because competitive top 10 lists are a good way to promote products so the arts become a sporting event. I haven't watched an awards show since I was a kid and we had only one TV and I was out voted, but I watched a few minutes of it because girlfriend is the keeper of the remote control. We are 5 hours behind the real world here in Hawaii so you can find out who the winners are before the show is over by turning on CNN so I did my part to try to reduce my carbon foot print and get girlfriend to turn the TV off. _________________ "These are the facts." Reduce carbon footprint? Is that a euphemism for "Hey baby, come here and give daddy some sugar"? _________________ "Next time I tell you someone from Texas should not be president of the United States, please pay attention.”---Molly Ivins |

Yes, and it works about as well. She'd prolly be like, "I'll give you a carbon footprint up your ass..." _________________ "These are the facts." Facts? What country does he think he's talking to? Facts are to Americans as salads are to Americans. --The Rude Pundit |

And you'd be like, "Oh baby, I love it when you talk dirty!"

I rarely see movies until they are on DVD, and I haven't seen any of the winners.
I have no idea of the quality of The Hurt Locker, but I don't like James Cameron so I'm glad that his ex-wife won. _________________ "Americans are suffering in the Gulf while Republicans apologize to Big Oil." - Nancy Pelosi. |
